SAN DIEGO — Firm partner and San Diego Habitat for Humanity board chairperson Andrea Petray joined other team members, guests, and local officials at the dedication ceremony for two new Habitat homes in Encinitas, California.
Celebrating empowerment and renewed hope for local families.
Guests at this heartwarming event wished the new homeowner families well as they embark on their new lives filled with strength, stability, and independence.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Petray reminded the gathering…
“Housing is a true foundation for generational success. When a family has stable, healthy, secure housing, they can succeed in all walks of life. Habitat provides opportunities for local families who thought they would never achieve the dream of home ownership. We walk hand-in-hand with them as they build and buy their very own homes. Together, we are not only building houses, we are building stronger communities. Encinitas is a wonderful, vibrant community of which Habitat is proud to be a part.”
The houses were intended to be mostly built by Habitat’s army of approximately 5,000 annual volunteers working alongside the new homeowners, who commit to build and buy their own homes as part of their partnership with Habitat for Humanity. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a dedicated group of 19 “regular” volunteers and superintendents jumped in and got the job done in good health, safely, and on time.
The 1,400 square foot (3 bedroom) and 1,700 square foot (4 bedroom) single-family homes will feature attached garages, covered porches, drought-tolerant landscaping, and energy efficient appliances and plumbing fixtures.
Built in partnership with the city of Encinitas.
These two new homes were built in partnership with the City of Encinitas, who offered a ground lease on the land to Habitat to ensure current and long-term affordability of the homes. This is Habitat’s second partnership with the City of Encinitas.
The homes were offered for sale at an affordable price through Habitat for Humanity’s homeownership selection process. Interested parties seeking to learn more are invited to visit Habitat’s website at www.sandiegohabitat.org. There, you can add your name to a list of people that will be notified when more homes are available for sale. Habitat builds throughout San Diego County.
